Pens Beat the Ducks, without Crosby

The Pens made a statement lastnight with a 3-1 win over Aneheim Ducks. The Capitals-Pens boxing match left Sidney Crosby, Kris Letang, and Rob Scuderi out for the game, not to mention the IR group of Pascal Dupuis, Ruslan Fedotenko (due to Feds fight against ex-Pen Colby Armstrong… which one landed punch to Army’s face caused a broken hand), Maxime Talbot, Mike Zigomanis, and Sergei Gonchar. Considering that about half of the Pens’ lineup are from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Baby Pens, this may be a sign of Pittsburgh’s future. Even more, the Pittsburgh native (Fox Chaple, PA) Bill Thomas gave a brief glimpse of what ex-pen/Pittsburgh native Ryan Malone once served for the Pens. Another baby Pen showing Godard-like brut is Paul Bissonnette. While the baby pens are not something to gawk and awe about, they are showing signs of maturing… something any team wants to see in their prospects.

As Pens try to regain their image as a force to reckon with, it’s definitely a bright light in what has been a cold, dark January in Pittsburgh. Even more, let’s hope that the recent trade of back-up goalied, the swap of Sabourin for Edmonton’s Garon will prove to be useful. Personally, it was a slight benefit for the Pens… but not by much.
