Chicago mayor Richard Daley and Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson have entered into a (maybe) friendly wager on their hockey teams who are facing each other right now in the NHL playoffs. The Vancouver Canucks are already up 1-0 in the western conference semi-finals. That has the Vancouver mayor closer to winning three cases of Red Felt Beer, two cases of sangria and two bottles of red zinfandel. If the Blackhawks win the series mayor Robertson will owe two cases of Granville Island, some cherry stout from Storm Brewing and a case of Molson Canadian.

I love it that these mayors are placing bets on their teams in the NHL playoffs, but it is even better that they are betting beer. I’ve never had Red Felt, Granville Island or anything from Storm Brewing. I guess I know what I am going to have to look for at the liquor store for tomorrow’s games.

Well it is kinda late to get to this, but here are my playoff predictions – as I’m watching the Canucks go up 3-0 over the Blackhawks.

vs
Detroit Red Wings vs Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks were impressive in beating the leagues best record Sharks, but I can’t imagine they will be able to drop 2 of the top teams in a row. So I gotta pick the Red Wings to win this one.

vs
Vancouver Canucks vs Chicago Blackhawks
This one is hardly fair because I’m watching the game right now. The Canucks are up 3-0 at the 2nd intermission of game 1. They have yet to be beaten in the playoffs and I guess I have to pick them.

vs
Boston Bruins vs Carolina Hurricanes
Seems a lot of people think the Bruins can win the Stanly Cup. I think they can beat the Hurricanes.

vs
Washington Capitals vs Pittsburgh Penguins
The Capitals had to mount a pretty big comeback to send the Rangers home for the year. I don’t think they will have to do the same to finish off the Penguins.

Uh-oh, the Blackhawks got a goal back just as I’m typing this. I guess I still have to stay with the Canucks.

My Picks:
Canucks v.s. Ducks
Mats won’t be playing in the Canucks games but I think the Canucks will take it 3-2.

Penguins v.s. Sabres
With Sidney Crosby in a bit of a goal drought and Fleury out with a groin injury I think the Sabres will take the win 4-2

Maple Leafs v.s. Thrashers
It looks like Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Justin Pogge will get the start for the Maple Leafs and with Toronto 6-4-0 in there last ten games and Atlanta 3-6-1 in there last ten games. I’m taking the Leafs over the Thrashers 2-1

Coyotes v.s. Oilers
Dwanye Roloson has been off and on all season and tonight I belive he will be off. Look for the Oilers to lose there fourth straight tonight with the final score being 5-3 or 4-1.

Today Mats Sundin ended the 6 month long saga by finally signing a 1 year ten million dollar contract. Mats said this to the media after signing with the Canucks, “I am truly excited to be joining the Canucks. Once I made the decision to return to play a few weeks ago, the Vancouver opportunity was simply the best overall fit”. Although Mats has signed with the Canucks, the fans will not see Mats playing to a Canucks jersey until at least December 27 because of the holiday roster freeze. The Reason I said until at least is because Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Alain Vigneault will decide if he is physically fit to play in a NHL regular season game. I think Mats is going to make this team a playoff contender (that’s if Luongo’s in goal) but lets here you opinion leave a comment about this post.

Hi Guys,I’m one of the new writers on the site. my screen name is HockeyPro. I’ll be covering the Ottawa Senators and the Vancouver Canucks for now. So I’ll start off with the Canucks well the retiring of Trevor Linden’s #16 that is. Now personally I love the way Trevor plays and tonight he will be appreciated and commemorated on his great play and his amazing skill. The ceremony will be one hour long. Patrick Roy’s jersey retiring was only twenty minutes long so this could drag on a little while. There is supposed to be about ten speakers including Kirk McLean. So I’ll trying and post something every 3 days or so. Remember to leave comments on the blog. That’s all for now, HockeyPro
